Mapping Categories

Submissions are requested from, but not limited to, the following Global Health Security Agenda-relevant categories:
Emerging Infectious Diseases:
Map the geographic and temporal spread of recent vector-borne outbreaks (Zika if available; if not Dengue and Chikungunya are decent proxies) in the Western Hemisphere, overlaid with at least one social or environmental determinant of health (human transport routes, temperature or rainfall variation, vector range, etc.). Bonus points for two or more social/environmental determinants.

One Health:
Map migratory patterns of wildlife linked to zoonoses (birds, bats, etc.) and identify key geographic points where their routes intersect with a) domesticated animals known to be disease reservoirs (fowl, pigs, etc.) or b) subsistence hunting grounds. Bonus points for maps that depict “backyard agriculture” as well as large-scale agriculture. Extra bonus points for maps that cover a member of GHSA.

Health Disparities:
Analyze the geographic distribution of communities with large health disparities; compare with the geography of at least 1 social or environmental determinant of health (e.g., immunization rates, sanitation access, healthcare facility access). Bonus points for 2 or more social/environmental determinants.

Antimicrobial Resistance:
Analyze the geographic correlation (at the finest scales available) between antibiotic usage rates and the availability of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures (e.g., handwashing with soap). Bonus points for maps that address antibiotics and IPC in animals as well as human health.

Health Workforce & Health Access:
Analyze the rates of trained health care workers or veterinarians per X population across geographic units (districts/states/provinces) of a selected country. Bonus points for maps that also depict other health access features (e.g., travel time to a facility with trained health workers, emergency medical (EMT) team distribution, or distance to a paved road).
